2014 has arrived and here at Aspirational Bride we’ve been looking at the top 10 wedding trends 2014!
Some of these trends have been around for a while but they are going to become much more prominent during 2014, and even into 2015!
This year there is an eclectic feel to the latest trends which are diverse and unique – there really is something for everyone planning a 2014 and 2015 wedding! So without further ado, here’s a brief summary of the hottest trends (special posts to follow over the next few weeks!)…
Top 10 Wedding Trends 2014
We are going to see lots of towering floral centerpieces during the coming seasons – perfect for large rooms and high-ceilinged spaces, these will add drama and elegance to tables. Think very tall vases and candelabras!
Romantic pastel watercolours are going to prove hugely popular at spring and summer weddings, particularly for wedding stationery. We love this theme for artsy couples who enjoy playing with light and texture, and who appreciate the subtle nuances of varying shades of pastel colours whilst still maintaining an amazing vibrancy!
3. Rose Gold
Lying somewhere between champagne and copper, rose gold is going to be seen a lot this year especially for wedding and engagement rings!
We’re seeing a real shift in the way in which couples are choosing to seat their guests. The traditional set-up of round reception tables is giving way to elegant long banquet style tables. This is an altogether more formal style although guests can still be seated more socially – directly opposite one another! This seating style would also work brilliantly with the trend for tall floral centerpieces…
5. Back To Nature
There’s a return to nature this year, with a focus on traditional hand-tied wild flower bouquets. This romantic, effortless look works perfectly for a country garden reception, or free-spirited boho wedding filled with loosely tied bouquets and arrangements which look freshly handpicked! Remember to consult with your florist, wild flowers need to be sourced sensibly and responsibly!
Rustic weddings are going to be about connecting with nature in a meaningful way, inspiration and styling will also come from woodlands with homemade favours and locally sourced organic food.
6. Nostalgic food
Your wedding day will become a cherished memory, but many brides are also revisiting childhood memories and serving classic childhood favourites such as bangers and mash and fish and chips! You can also have lots of fun with ‘traditional’ desserts and puddings.
7. Morning Weddings
One hot new food trend for 2014 is the true wedding breakfast, with couples having their ceremonies first thing. “Due to the fact that morning weddings are generally cheaper than afternoon and evening affairs, we are seeing the rise of brunch as a catering option,” says the UK Academy of Wedding & Event Planners. “Think omelette stations, mimosas, pancakes, and Bloody Marys.”
A new wedding and fashion trend referred to as ‘ombre’, has been growing in popularity over the past year. ‘Ombre’, French for “shaded or graduated in tone”, is where colours blend into one another from light to dark. It can be used to showcase a range of multiple colors or shades of one color— each offering a simply stunning effect. You will see ombre everywhere: bridesmaids dresses, cakes, decor, flowers, nail polish and even hairstyles.
9. Mercury Glass
Mercury glass will also be seen a lot this year, adding a bit of sparkle to tables! It is also versatile enough to work on rustic tables or to give an altogether more sumptuous and elegant look. Mercury glass looks most effective when different glass holders or vases are grouped together on one table.
Wedding colour trends are always influenced by Pantone. Their chosen colour for 2014 is Radiant Orchid, so we will see lots of pinks and purples this year. You can see some Radiant Orchid inspiration here.
Finally, we’ve added one sneaky trend – sending flowers online. These days you don’t have to be restricted to the UK only! The beauty of the internet is that flowers can now be ordered anywhere in the world, quickly and efficiently! For example, it’s possible to send flowers to India, and to get the same professional service you’d expect if you were sending to a neighbour who lived locally! A perfect idea for those of us unable to attend weddings we’ve been invited to, or simply to say congratulations after attending a wonderful day!
Whether you work in the wedding industry or are getting married this year, which of these top 10 wedding trends 2014 will you be drawn to and why? We’d love to hear from you!
