The Fashionista Bride – Kate Edmonson Bridal Couture
Today we are delighted to feature an interview with the hugely talented Kate Edmonson. Kate’s designs are simply stunning – sophisticated, elegant and perfect for the fashionista bride!
Tell us about Kate Edmonson Bridal Couture and what inspired you to set it up?
I started Kate Edmondson Bridal Couture 2 years ago. I saw a gap in the market for the fashionista bride who was looking for something different and more fashion forward. I have always had a strong interest in bridal fashion. So once I left school I went to art college to develop my designs and construction skills. I then the opportunity to work for a bridal couture house within their workroom. I quickly realised that in order for me to use my design skills I would need to start my own label, so I started working and developing my own designs and making dresses for clients as a hobby. I made a decision to launch my own label Kate Edmondson Bridal Couture.
What do you enjoy most about having your own business?
What I enjoy most about the business is the creative side of things. I enjoy working with all the luxury fabrics and trims. I love seeing the reaction to my dresses and headpieces when I showcase my work at wedding fairs.
How do you go about creating your dress and headpiece designs, and where do you feel your inspiration comes from?
I draw inspiration from the fabrics and trims. I also love the 1920s-1960s era. My headpieces are inspired by my dress designs. Most pieces compliment my dresses.
Do you have any predictions for trends in bridal dresses and headpieces for 2013/2014?
My predictions are that there will be more bright colours available. There will also be skin tone colours blushes to compliment your skin tone. The trend will continue with embellishment, French Lace dresses will also continue. Cowl neckline will also be a feature on bridal dresses. There will also be more short dresses . Trouser suits for the urban bride. There will also be more draping and layering and ruffles on dresses.
