Organising a Super Stag and Hen Celebration

There is one event that is very nearly as important as your wedding day – the stag and hen do. This is essentially your last chance to party as an ‘almost singleton’ and to enjoy some time with your close family and friends.

The tradition of a stag and hen party has been around for many years and was a way for those closest to the bride or groom to toast them pre-wedding,  a tradition which lives on today. In more recent years however, the pressure has most certainly mounted and expectations surrounding these celebrations has increased significantly.

Organising a Super Stag and Hen Celebration

Luckily for the maid of honour or best man (who has undoubtedly been left to plan the event), having an amazing stag or hen party doesn’t have to cost you the earth  – not all of your attendees will be able to afford a week away in Vegas! We’ve put together a guide to help you to plan a super hen or stag do, with something to suit every budget.

Something for the Ladies

DIY Hen Do

Not every bride-to-be is the L-plate and shot-glass necklace type, so why not plan something a little more low key? Whether you choose to host a summer garden party or an evening in making cocktails with the girls, there are plenty of things you can do at home which can be tailored to suit the bride-to-be.

There are plenty of ideas for homemade ideas for hen do’s floating around the internet, from home made bunting to a vintage drinks dispenser full of a favourite cocktail, and plenty of party games too!

A Day at the Spa

There really isn’t a better way to help the future bride to relax than with a day at the spa. Many health clubs and hotels allow you to book into their spa for the day, allowing you use of their pool, sauna and jacuzzi and many even give you the option of a champagne afternoon tea too. Whether you choose to use the basic facilities or to take advantage of some of their luxury treatments (who can say no to an hour long massage?!) it’s a great way for the girls to bond and get to know each other a little better before the big day.

Something for the Guys

Distillery and Brewery Tours

What better way to spend your weekend, than by taking a tour of your favourite beer or whisky makers? Across England and Scotland there are plenty of distilleries and breweries that offer tours, and of course, plenty of samples too! You could combine one of these tours with a weekend away somewhere too.

A Weekend in the Country

It’s not just the ladies who need a pre-wedding weekend away! For guys among you who don’t fancy a boozey weekend away in Ibiza, then why not opt for a staycation instead. Whether you rent a log cabin, spend the weekend camping or splash out on a fancy hotel, there are plenty of gorgeous locations in the UK where you can hold your celebrations. Think cooked breakfasts, long walks and evening spent drinking ales and eating locally sourced food in cosy country pubs. Just perfect.

Something for Everyone

We’re not suggesting you break from tradition (though that is entirely down to you) but there are companies who organise both stag and hen parties for you, taking out the stress of the whole thing and allowing you to enjoy the celebrations from start to finish. Whether that’s a stag do in Amsterdam or a hen party in a luxury cottage there is something to suit every budget and taste.

Hopefully these will provide you with the inspiration you need to create a fantastic stag and hen weekend, whatever you choose to do!
