Choosing Your Bridal Lingerie

Choosing the right lingerie for your body shape and wedding dress is absolutely crucial  A huge thanks to Tanya from Moonrise Lingerie for this guest post with lots of great tips and advice!

Every bride has an idea of what her perfect wedding dress will look like for her wedding day and spends a huge amount of time deciding on the final dress. It’s not uncommon that bridal lingerie gets left until the very last minute, and as a part of your wedding day outfit which makes a huge impact on the overall look, it’s quite surprising. So here are a few things to think about once you’ve decided upon your perfect dress, along with some ideas of what’s available when it comes to choosing your wedding underwear.

Firstly don’t leave it until the last minute, have your lingerie in time for your final dress fitting to give yourself the best chance of finding something that compliments both your dress and your figure. If you want something to pull your figure in around the waist then you might want to consider a wedding corset.

A corset is perfect for giving upper body support from the boning as well as pulling you in around the hips using the waist cinching effect that they are designed for. Most modern wedding corsets feature plastic boning and are not as uncomfortable and as restrictive as the corsets of earlier days.

Do make sure that you measure yourself before deciding on the size of corset to get. The other advantage is that even as a strapless option they still provide a lot of support for the upper body.

If your wedding gown has a lot of boning already in the design of the bodice and you feel uncomfortable without a bra for support, then there are many bridal bra sets to choose from as well. Do think about the cut of your dress line before you jump straight in, if you have a sweetheart style design then you’ll need a bra with a deep décolleté or low plunge to keep it out of sight of cameras and guests.

As well as the outline of the dress, bear some thought to the material and fit of the dress, for instance if you’ve opted for a thin satin material for a spring or summer wedding then go easy on the amount of lace within the design, it might look very fairy tale and romantic for your big day but it’ll probably show through the dress so maybe look for a seamless design.

Many of today’s brides are so determined to look their absolute best for their wedding day that they opt for some of the bridal body shapewear that has become more attractive to wear and choose something a little eye catching for the wedding night itself. Modern shapewear for the bride utilises different materials to achieve different levels of slimming effect and toning for different areas of the figure from the thighs, hips, bum and tum.

Lastly don’t forget your accessories, the wedding garter/stockings or hold ups to finish off your underwear for the day. It’s a pretty good idea to have a spare pair of wedding stockings or hold ups for your wedding day, just in case of any nics and ladders that might appear, even a cheaper pair to have as an emergency – leave with them with a bridesmaid to look after!
