What better way to continue Italian month than with a gorgeous Italian wedding, Giuseppina Daye from Accent Events Limited/Wedding Day Italy tells the story behind this beautiful wedding…
I was first contacted by Emily in 2010 and her original enquiry was for a wedding on Lake Como. I remember the conversation as I had pulled over in my car to speak to her on my mobile phone. Everything Emily said was resonating with me, I had waited along time for a bride to say that they wanted to really embrace Italy and not just change geography for her wedding.
Emily has a long love affair with Italy through her passion for MotoGP and Marco Simoncelli her favourite motorcycle racer. MotoGP was to actually feature in Emily’s vows to Gary at the civil ceremony (Gary had to promise to take Emily to Italy every year for MotoGP!)
After this initial conversation communication stopped between us. I was a little disappointed as I thought the rapport we had on that first conversation had secured Accent’s involvement for the wedding. It was almost a year later when I saw Emily’s name in my inbox. The reason for the gap in communication was that Emily became pregnant with her daughter Francesca which had put a stop to the original wedding planning.
There was a rethink to location too, MotoGP 2011 was taking place in Mugello and as Emily, Gary & Francesca were going they thought they would host their wedding in Tuscany too!
The date was set for 7th July 2011, and some of their MotoGP friends would also join them at their evening reception.
Emily & Gary – Villa La Palagina Wedding
We put forward a few locations but Emily fell in love with Villa La Palagina in Figline Valdarno, the perfect position overlooking vineyards and sunflower fields… It is idyllic, it’s hard to describe the pervading atmosphere that surrounds La Palagina, you really need to visit it to experience for yourselves.
Emily is a very creative person and is herself a photographer, she knew exactly what she wanted and I remember well the morning of the wedding Emily instructing us to move furniture for photography and to ensure how to decorate the reception table. Emily and Gary chose to go for the long table format, typically Italian…
Emily is a natural stylist, and over the months she collected items that would add to the theme for her wedding, items related to travel, vintage items, coloured ribbon, lavendar, personally designed invitations and a very helpful booklet that each guest received giving useful information and some well chosen Italian phrases – it was perfect and so very personal.
The other important aspect of the wedding for Emily was her passion for music. Not only had she compiled the party music perfectly, Emily had also put together a CD for each guest of wedding music and these were placed at each table setting. There were a fair few items to put out but the overall effect was stunning. We used cut flowers from a local florist and also the wonderful groundsman at La Palagina took a shine to Emily’s mother so was very generous with olive sprigs and flowers from the garden!
The civil ceremony took place in the Palazzo Pretorio in Figline Valdarno, gothic looking on the outside, inside it has a modern receptiona area with a grand stone staircase up to the ceremonial room.
