Every so often an inspired collaboration hits the High Street, and we were certainly blown away by this new collaboration to reach our shops!
The Victoria and Albert Museum teamed up with high street store Coast to create a capsule line of dresses, inspired by last year’s fashion archive exhibition Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950. Coast V&A Ballgowns Collection contains gorgeous dresses, in a variety of styles, which are perfect for spring and summer weddings.
Coast’s design team was granted access to the museum’s archives of costume, delicate embroidery and iconic photography for inspiration, and has created gorgeous occasionwear which reflects the glamour of the past 100 years – as modelled by the lovely Suki Waterhouse.

“The designs truly reflect the allure of ballgowns and grand occasionwear evoking the glamour and splendour of their inspiration,” said V&A business development and licensing director Lauren Sizeland. “These gowns will give the opportunity for customers to indulge in a little piece of fashion history.”
The range features both short and long styles, all completely on trend with layers of tiered chiffon, others with sheer panelling and jewelled detailing. Each has a vintage feel – whether sleek and Art Deco-inspired or Fifties prom dress style. Prices start at £550.
“The V&A collection seemed like the perfect collaboration for both Coast and the V&A,” said Coast head of design Kim Elliot. “Inspiration for this fabulous collection of dresses came from vintage dresses, beautiful and iconic fashion photography images and delving into the drawers of fashion history to recreate and bring to life this collection of contemporary ballgowns.”
