2014 Trend Gorgeous Grey Flowers
We touched upon grey in earlier posts with some brides opting for a grey dress (see my ‘50 Shades‘ post!), but what about using grey to form the perfect backdrop to your big day?
Grey can be an elusive colour in floral terms… not many (if any) flowers are grey but there are ways to achieve that hue with some clever use of foliage, flowers and plants.
Gorgeous Grey Flowers
Lets kick off with Gypsophila… En masse!!!
Many Brides are choosing this and only this in their arrangements and bouquets! The ‘Million Stars’ variety is my favourite… hundreds of teeny tiny heads in pure white, when arranged, build up and form a pretty grey shade when viewed form afar.
If we arrange it in a beautiful silver chalice bowl or amongst cut crystal pieces the effect is spot on. Its also a budget friendly choice… you can get a fair bit for your money!!!
Certain varieties of foliage can successfully be used in a grey theme. ‘Dusty Miller’ Senicio is king of the grey foliages… the frosty grey hue will compliment pure white blooms and gently subdue the overall look.
An all white bouquet can often be a little too stark, certainly against your dress. Adding hints of grey will give that little, much needed contrast. After all your bouquet is an integral part of your big day look. (well I think it is… : )
Succulents have been popular for a few years now and the minty grey varieties, I think, are a must for this theme. I never fail to be amazed by Succulents. I think they are incredible.
It can be a bold choice for a wedding bouquet but I do believe that if they are combined with some other choice flowers it can make for a stunning posy.
Teamed with ‘Majolica’ spray roses, with their porcelain white blooms ever so slightly blushing in the centre, is a match made in floral heaven!!! Succulents also make great favours too… A fab way of carrying the grey theme through into the reception décor.
‘Silver Brunia’ available in the colder few months of the year… perfect for a winter wedding, instantly transforms a more classic posy into something special. It adds some great texture and looks sensational with pure white Anemones, Stocks and Senicio. Silver by name, silver by nature… A real gem for those grey lovers out there.
By no means must you stop at white tones when planning a grey themed wedding. Pale pinks, peachy and pastel hues look divine with the grey colour scale too. It’s a subtle and elegant colour way and looks set to feature in de rigueur weddings!!!
